A Homemade Latte A Day From Cunningham Cafe!
I'm not a coffee expert, I'm not! And I'm definitely not a barista, nor have I ever worked at a coffee shop. If you're a coffee snob, this might not be the post for you. However, if you've never made a latte before and want to learn what goes into making a delicious looking and tasting treat from my own kitchen, aka Cunningham Cafe, then I hope you find this blog post helpful! The following is how I've been making daily lattes for the past several months. I hope you enjoy!
What You Need To Make Your Own:
- Coffee beans
- Coffee Grinder (with fine grinding capabilities)
- Espresso/Cappuccino/Latte Machine
- Coffee Tamper (usually included with espresso machine)
- Milk (I use 2%)
- Milk Frothing Pitcher
- Cocoa Powder in a Powder Shaker
- Coffee Decorating Stencil Designs
- Clear Coffee Mug (because to be able to see your hand crafted beverage is to enjoy it all the more!)

To make one latte, select FINE grind and the amount of 2 cups on your coffee grinder and press the grind button!
Attach the stainless filter basket into the portafilter and pour in the fine grinds. Take the tamper and compress the coffee grounds.
Now, make sure there is water in the back of your espresso/latte machine. Turn the machine on and push the button on the bottom left to espresso and wait for the button to turn green. Attach your portafilter and place a short cup under the spout. Turn the dial to the left to brew your espresso. You will manually need to turn the machine off once the shot starts to turn from brown to blond. (This takes practice!) At this point, I mix a very small amount of raw sugar into the espresso and let it dissolve.
Now, push the button on the bottom left to steam and wait for the green light to come on. Pour 4 oz of milk into the pitcher. Place the pitcher under the milk steamer, being sure the steaming handle goes down into the milk (otherwise you could have hot steam going everywhere!). Gently swirl the pitcher with your hand, steaming the milk until it about doubles in volume (it usually takes me about 30 seconds). Turn the machine off and gently tap the pitcher on the table a few times.
Next, using a spoon, hold back the foam in the pitcher and pour the steamed milk into your espresso.
Then, also using the spoon, top off your drink with dollops of foam left in the pitcher. Select your stencil design, place it on top of your drink and shake cocoa powder over the stencil. And...
